Did you even read what I wrote? Unplug all peripherals except keyboard and mouse. If the media won't boot by powering up the PC by pressing and holding the F12 key then try another USB port, otherwise it's probably a media issue. You can test this by trying to boot the media in another PC. WHen the media boots it does not take you to the Setup screen, but to a boot menu as illustrated in the Wiki. Please follow those illustrated steps pictures in Clean Install Windows When presented with a boot menu choose the UEFI version of stick if offered.

My apologies if I came across as being a little testy. I am frazzled but that is no excuse. In any event I do realize how hard it is for someone to deal with someone else at arm's length and I thank you very, very much for caring enough to try and help. I tried Rufus once to no avail. The majority of my efforts has been trying to figure out the Media Creation Tool.
I have tried various external usb hard drives formatted only to use for this purpose. Regardless of the type of media I insert, when I turn on the computer, I get the Acer Logo screen and that is it. I can bang on the F key until it pops out of the keyboard but nothing happens. I don't know, but when you turn it on the screen comes up HP Pavilion and it has a triple screen with three mouse pointers. It won't let you log in and doesn't go anywhere. That didn't work. I can't get to the start up window not even in Safe Mode.
While in Safe Mode I tried every option. And nothing will get it to the start-up menu. Enable UGA Mode was the one that made the most progress. I got the screen to be solid instead of split in three. I have also tried to reinstall several times but the same issue reoccurs. I also tried to check if the BIOS was corrupt by inserting the motherboard support CD but it did not report any errors.
My next step would be to update the BIOS; any other suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Joined Aug 1, Messages 51, Are you sure you are setting the jumper correctly? Many drives have different jumper settings depending if a slave is present or not.
Some need no jumper when alone. Did you remove all the partitions and create new ones with XP setup? That board uses SATA drives so it is set by default to boot from one. Yes I am fairly confident that I have the jumper set appropriately. I have it configured with no jumper at all because no slave present in the system. This is shown on the hard drive sticker and on the support website in the link below. Joined Aug 4, Messages 5, If so remove the jumper setting this as master.
WD drives do not need jumpers when they are single on IDE1. Try again. I missed your post when typing. Make sure the IDE ribbon is soled on the main board as well as the drive. When you format the drive, do a FULL format and not a quick format and do the install again.
Yes it is on it's own IDE1, no slave present. I have not been using a jumper during all of my attempts at installing XP so far. Lance1, all formats have been full NTFS formats so far as well. I do not know what you mean by "soled".
Are you talking about the IDE ribbon cable being solid in color? I still have the same issue. Just a note that your help this far is much appreciated -- thank you. If so, it was probably master and removing it will make no difference to the HD on a separate channel. If it was by itself on the other cable, it is usually the master.
